Hey Mickey!

Hey Mickey you're so fine...you're so fine you blow my mind..hey Mickey!

Words from a song I know but this is very true of Mickey! This is my chap just recently 6 years old....but why does he blow my mind -

I am a dog psychologist and Behaviour specialist BUT why does he sit up in his rocking chair and wave both front paws at me with his tongue sticking out?!!

Actually I do know why - and "no" it is not a trick I taught him - he figured it out all by himself .... it is because it gets my attention - result Mickey wants! One of the ways dogs learn is through obeservation, so he trys something he has seen us humans do - wave, then copies it which makes me smile and say "who's a clever boy then" which praises his actions = reinforcement...so now he does it all the time!!!

WHO"s WHO - MEET THE EASTCOASTERS!

Eddie - My first Jack Russell!
Most dominant female of the pack, she knows it and so do all the others. Many have tried to take over her place as Top Dog but non have suceeded. At nearly 8 she's done dog obedience school, even an away training course, agility, tellington touch and now she's my "right hand dog".
Patsy -The second russell
The posh one as she likes to think of it - a Parson Russell! Also 8, a very laid back dog only ever needing basic training from me. Second to Eddie, often called "Grumpy Auntie Patsy" as she merely tolerates the others! She considers herself the matriarch of the pack, the lady who lunches and lounges!
Max The Doberman
At 5 he is the most dominant male dog. He too has done obedience and excelled, tried agility (but didn't like the tunnel) and been on away training course. He's big and beautiful, calm, friendly and FAST!!
Lucy, The English Setter
She's 5 and completely nutty. True to her working breed she's proved very difficult to train in obedience! She lives in her own world Lucy's Planet. Not sure what goes on there but she's very happy and neutral but gets a little overexcited about things and goes into Loopy Loo mode!
Bob, The Boder Collie x Jack Rusell
At 5, he's the calmest, most neutral dog in the pack. He loves his walks, a happy go lucky boy. obedience and agility trained, he's the dog who helps the others overcome their anxieties. He's resepctful to other dogs and a real softie with people. The collie side of him loves tennis balls and the Russell loves rooting around in the countryside!

Also 5, a very cheaky chappie! As soon as he was old enough he fathered pups to both Eddie and Patsy. Tiny Tim, his son, we kept! He does tricks to get attention like sitting up and waving at you. He likes to think he's the Boss but Max puts him in his place, dream on Mickey!! He barked his way through obedience training and got kicked out of class. Now he's relearning how to be a well manered dog...this may take some time!
Alfie, The English Setter
Now how did this happen....He's 8 (we think) and Lucy's cousin. I say think as we got him when his owner could no longer look after him, he failed as being a working setter and ended up with us! He loves Lucy (Lucy thinks everyone loves Lucy) and often lives on Lucy's planet, but will tend to go off on his own on the beach if I don't recall him in time , or he choses not to hear me - he may then be gone some time! We love him yet you can tell we haven't had him since a pup, resulting in other challenges - more experience for me!
Timmy, The Jack Russell
To be true he is half Parson Russell and half Jack Russell (Dad Mickey Mum Patsy). Now 4, we kept him as Patsy couldn't be bothered to bring him up and we had to feed him since day 1 hence Tiny Tim! A fab, handsome dog with neutral, well manered behviour - amazing considering his parents! Good all rounder he too helps out with bringing on the others in the pack.
Monty, The Great Dane
Aged 4, huge and black he's a real gentle giant! He went to dog training, thought I'd better do obedience with him as he's a powerful size, only he'd do his stuff excellently and then fall asleep! Friends with all, he plays with Max and that is some sight on the beach! Sleeping is his other favourite occupation!
Jack, Chihuahua x Yorkshire Terrier
The smallest and cutes of the pack! 3 years old he can "work a room" getting everyone to cuddle him and play with him! He's neutral, loving, sometimes a lapdog sometimes a terrier! Quite commanding despite his size, he has no understanding of how small he is! Naturally well behaved, he fathered pups to Sadie, and loves his walks, hates his baths!
Peter, The Fox Terrier x Jack Russell
You'll hear a lot about this one! He too is 3, but unlike Jack has a nervous disposition and carries alot of anxiety. With his own pack he is comfortable now, previously he had many dominance issues with the other males, including trying for Alpha Status - which I firmly hold onto. The starter of many in-pack fights, I'm only just starting to get his behaviour issues resoloved. Adorable boy, just needs to accept his status in the pack and adjust to meeting other dogs in a well mannered way ....this may take some time!
Sadie, The Jack Russell
The smallest and youngest of the Russells, at 2 she's a super dog, easy to train and loving. She had a litter of 5 pups to Jack last year and her son lives with a neighbour. Respectful and bouncy, she just loves to be a good girl. A very special dog & another good example to the others on how to behave!

AND FINALLY.....
Meet Snoopy, The English Setter x Terrier
Mum is Lucy and Dad....oh dear it's Peter!! Lets Put it this way, Lucy was in Season and went up the garden out of my sight with Peter (who should have been to young but wasn't). She's now one and a half, we kept her because she is slighlty blind and again I had to hand raise her. Lovely natured dog, bit scatty like her mum, best mates with Monty and no behaviour issues inherited from he Dad .... Wow that was lucky! Great girl with incredible senses and good manners with other dogs, given her sight problems she is truly amazing!
